In 2012, his work on Martin Scorsese’s Hugo earned him the Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. He has since been recognized by the Visual Effects Society, International Press Academy, and BAFTA.
A native Californian, Alex was born and raised in Berkeley, and holds a degree in Art from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He’s lived and worked in Europe, Asia and South America, and his work continues to take him around the globe.

With firsthand experience in the art and science of synthetic images, he co-founded Magnopus to make the physical-meets-virtual world and all its possibilities accessible to more people in more places.
As CEO, Alex has been leading operations for all-things Magnopus. And continues to work with partners around the world to make the impossible possible.
Before Magnopus, he created and supervised visual effects on feature films including Star Trek Into Darkness, After Earth, Alice in Wonderland, Shutter Island, The Golden Compass, Superman Returns, Sin City, and The Day After Tomorrow. He also worked in television, on commercials, music videos, and theme park rides.
