Meet the Magnopians: Aimee Melmoth Bennett

We sit down with Aimee to discuss her job role at Magnopus, the app she can’t do her job without, and how working on the Expo Dubai Xplorer project has been her proudest moment so far.

Aimee Melmoth-Bennett is a Producer at Magnopus UK. In the past five years, she’s worked on a spectrum of projects from physical shoots to real-time VR

What do you do at Magnopus?

I’m a producer, so I make sure my team is happy day-to-day, making sure we’re running to the budget, time schedule, making sure we’re hitting our goals, and ultimately delivering the project on time.

What’s been your favorite project to work on at Magnopus and why?

The Top Gear project at Magnopus UK (when it was REWIND). That was really good fun because it was a standard real-time project that I had worked on in the past. It was quite a different set of skills and I’d never produced a shoot before. It’s a very different way of thinking, it’s all on one day, you get a couple of rehearsals and that’s it, you have to deliver. I really thrived in that environment because I enjoy quick problem-solving.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I love cooking. I’m watching a lot of Rick Stein shows at the moment which makes me feel old before my time! I’ve got all his books, and everything I cook from his recipes is just delicious. I’ll cook recipes from other chefs, but they’re just not as tasty.

Rick Stein is a British chef, restaurateur, cookery book author and television presenter. He has written over 25 cookery books, a memoir and made over 30 programmes including 12 cookery series. Credit: Rick Stein

What is one app, or software, you couldn’t do your job without?

Slack, just because communication is the most important thing when working with the team. You need to be able to communicate effectively and with ease, especially now we’re not working all in one place and Slack allows that. `

As a producer, I’d say Google Sheets as well, as I’m always creating project management spreadsheets.

What has been your proudest moment while working at Magnopus?

Working on Expo Dubai Xplorer was amazing. It was groundbreaking. Even though I was only a small part, it was great to be part of that movement. At the time, I don’t think I realized how huge this thing we were working on was until I was talking to some friends and telling them about what we did, and they were so impressed. To them, the idea of having a whole other digital world overlaying the physical one was incredible, and that’s when I realized that actually yeah, this is awesome!

Working in this industry, a lot of the technology and concepts are kind of day-to-day for us, they get normalized. It can be easy to lose sight of how incredible some of these things are because we’re just so used to them.

The Expo Dubai Xplorer project helped me understand the potential of the technology. When we began the project, the concept of the metaverse was still just whispered, but we made it a reality and showed that the metaverse can offer real value to people.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career?

When I first started in the industry I was fresh on the scene, and when I started at Magnopus UK (REWIND at the time) I was learning, from the very beginning. My peers were super knowledgeable, very senior, and I always felt they made time for me, they cared about me, and they wanted me to do well. So a huge lesson for me is to learn from those around you and be open to helping and supporting others in their journey.
